What Thermage actually does
Thermage uses monopolar radiofrequency to heat the deep layer of the skin (the dermis) to a controlled temperature. That heat does two things: it immediately contracts existing collagen fibers, and it triggers the skin to build new collagen over the following months. The result is firmer, tighter, smoother skin — think of a slightly shrink-wrapped effect on laxity around the jawline, cheeks, and under the eyes.

Thermage vs. Ulthera — the difference that matters

This is the question every consultation should start with. Thermage (RF) works broadly across the dermis and is best for skin quality and tightening — crepey texture, mild laxity, pores. Ulthera (HIFU/ultrasound) reaches the deeper SMAS layer and is best for lifting sagging structure. Good fit: mild to moderate skin laxity, early jawline softening, crepey under-eye or neck skin, people who want firmer texture without downtime. Less ideal alone: significant sagging that needs structural lifting (consider Ulthera or threads first), or very thin, deflated faces that may need volume (filler) before tightening. Thermage removes slack — it does not add what's missing.

Does Thermage hurt?
There's a hot, snapping sensation with each shot, strongest over bone. Clinics use numbing cream and sometimes a mild sedative; comfort depends heavily on the operator's technique and energy titration. Tell them if it's too much — settings can be adjusted.
How long do Thermage results last?
Typically 1–2 years. Collagen remodeling peaks around 2–6 months after the session, so the final result is not what you see on day one. Maintenance every 12–18 months is common.
